‘The Only Way Out Was Through A One-Way’: Għargħur Resident Wakes Up To Closed Road
A Għargħur resident had no choice but to drive up a one-way this morning to get himself to work, after Infrastructure Malta closed a road without informing anyone.
The resident, who lives along Triq il-Kbira, Għargħur, woke up to a closed road – and the best part is that the road was closed by placing heavy construction machinery in the middle of it.
No signs were erected prior to the road closure, and a look through Infrastructure Malta’s Facebook page found no notification of any road closures occurring today in Għargħur.
“I went to leave the house today and found the road was closed. The only way to get out was to drive out of a one-way road. There were no signs of diversions or anything to stop any potential oncoming vehicles from entering this one-way at the same time,” the resident told Lovin Malta.
“When I called the local council they told me they had no idea what was going on, and that it isn’t their responsibility, directing me to call Infrastructure Malta myself,” he continued.
“I have contacted them and they are now seeing to it and have informed me that they will call me back and see to it,” he said. However, hours later, no one had reached out to the resident.
“This should have been done by the people in charge of the project and shouldn’t need to be pointed out by a resident,” he lamented.
It’s not the first time that infrastructural projects in Malta are not planned out well and left residents in a difficult predicament, with a video going viral last week after all possible exits in a particular junction were made one-way.
