‘Utterly Shocking’: Swieqi Bridge Closed For Safety Reasons
Last night, the Swieqi – Paceville bridge was closed off to both pedestrians and traffic due to debris falling from the ceiling.
In April 2024 Infrastructure Malta has resurfaces the road to repair cracks.
They mentioned that the cracks were caused by water damage and would be reinforcing it pouring fresh concrete.
When contacted they stressed that despite concerns the structural integrity of the bridge was not at risk.
This was brought up when Swieqi Local Council candidate Jordan Galea Pace raised concerns about the state of the bridge.
“Utterly shocking. What was predicted to happen is happening, I’ve brought this up a few weeks ago and no action has been taken since, they covered up the sinking bridge with a fresh layer of tarmac but ignored the foundation and haven’t answered the requests for clarification.
Is anyone going to be held responsible? Is anyone going to take action? Or are we just going to sit and wait till Swieqi Bridge collapses on residents?,”Galea Pace said on a Facebook post.
In February 2024, Infrastructure Malta announced the development of the Swieqi – St Julian’s Junction, which is a significant project that will allow better traffic flow and more accessibility from/to Swieqi and St Julian’s.
