Watch: ‘We Are Not Slaves’- Y Plate Protest Kicks Off Slow-Moving Carcade From Ta’ Qali
A slow-moving carcade protest organised by Y plate operators has just kicked off at Ta’ Qali, with a large number of cabs taking to the streets holding up everything from Maltese flags to placards with one simple message: “We are not slaves”.
The peaceful protest – which is being organised by The Light Passenger Operators Association – is specifically bringing to light “the current pricing strategies being adopted by partner platforms”, which it says are “impacting the the sustainability of the small operator, and thus affecting the operator’s earnings.”

And this could be seen in the number of signs stuck to the cars, with a mix of different nationalities of drivers coming together this morning to honk and protest their way across the streets of Malta. “We deserve decent earnings,” one sign read, while another said “we only get 35% of the whole price after expenses”.
Strategically aimed to hit the islands during morning rush-hour traffic, the slow-moving protest will be driving to Marsa.
What do you make of the drivers’ demands?
