Malta And Its Leaders Pay Tribute To Queen Elizabeth II And Recall Her Time Living On The Island
Malta paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after the long-serving British monarch died at the age of 96 last night.
“Throughout her 70 years of service, Queen Elizabeth II won the admiration of many people around the world, not least in Malta, the country with which she had a special tie,” the Maltese government said, recalling how the Queen had spent some time living in Malta prior to her 1952 coronation and her numerous visits to the island since.

She also gave an important contribution to the Commonwealth, which under her leadership evolved into a dynamic organisation that promotes democracy, diversity and people coming together.”
“The government of Malta sends its condolences to the Royal Family and to the people of the United Kingdom.”
Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech also paid tribute to the Queen, with both leaders recalling how she used to live on the island as a young princess in the late 1940s and early 1950s while her husband Philip was stationed on the island as a naval officer.
