Malta Has A Tracking System For Airport Arrivals That Test Positive For COVID-19

A mechanism has been set up to track anyone who travels to Malta via the airport and tests positive for COVID-19, Tourism Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli announced today.
“This is an arrangement made with the public health authorities that involves a mechanism of tracking. If there’s ever the situation where we need to isolate someone, we can do so,” she said at a press conference earlier today.
Malta is set to partially reopen its airport tomorrow after a hiatus of four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been zero cases of new COVID-19 cases over the past four days with more recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases down to 22.
“The mechanism is there and it is strong,” Farrugia Portelli said.
On the other hand, the Medical Association of Malta took a different stance this morning saying that people returning to the island should be checked for all symptoms and tested if they show any.
“A high index of suspicion should be retained,” MAM said earlier today.
To celebrate the grand reopening, Malta’s skies will be lit with an unprecedented fireworks show involving 21 localities. It will begin at 8.30pm.
