Malta Just Landed The World’s Most Influential Tourism Summit

It’s official: Valletta will host the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit in 2026 — the biggest and most influential gathering in the travel industry. The announcement was made in Rome this week at the closing of the 2025 edition, and it means that in less than two years, the world’s tourism power players will be flying straight into Malta.
The WTTC Global Summit brings together ministers, CEOs, destination leaders and international media for three days of high-level talks, deal-making and agenda-setting. Think of it as the G7 of tourism – only with more cocktails, networking, and conversations about how to make travel more sustainable, resilient, and profitable.
Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Ian Borg called the announcement a proud moment for Malta, saying the summit is a chance to showcase the island’s cultural heritage, innovation, and hospitality while giving local businesses a seat at the table with global brands.
WTTC boss Gloria Guevara praised Valletta as one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals, pointing out that Malta’s tourism industry is not just bouncing back – it’s booming. This year alone, the sector is expected to contribute €3.6 billion to the economy, 43.5% above 2019 levels, and support one in five jobs across the country.
For the Malta Tourism Authority, the win is about more than just the event. CEO Carlo Micallef said the summit will leave a lasting mark, cementing Malta’s reputation as a centre of excellence in tourism with benefits for the industry, the economy and the people.
With the summit now locked in, Malta will soon find itself hosting world leaders, CEOs, and international press all in one place.
