Malta To Give €100,000 In Emergency Aid To Struggling Turkey And Syria

Malta has earmarked €100,000 in emergency funds for Syria and Turkey as the Levant countries battle against the clock to save as many lives as possible after some of the worst earthquakes in recent years.
“Deeply moved by the extent of damage caused by recent earthquakes in Syria as well. We will be providing funds through @RESCUEorg to assist in their disaster response efforts. Malta supports all efforts aimed at assisting Syrian people in this dramatic situation,” Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg said this evening.
The €100,000 will be split between the two countries, and will be used specifically on humanitarian aid.

This comes above and beyond any state funds that were already earmarked for the countries, as well as the 32 Civil Protection Department officers and canine currently hard at work rescuing victims of the quakes in Turkey.
Aside from the funds, both the CPD as well as the Turkish Embassy in Malta are gathering donations items – especially winter clothing – to be sent to the countries as soon as possible.
