Malta’s Archbishop Charles Scicluna will celebrate a mass in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II following her death.

In a statement, the Curia said that the mass would be held at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta at 6.30pm.

President George Vella will also be in attendance.

Other state authorities and members of the general public are also invited.

The Mass will be broadcast live on TVM, knisja.mt and newsbook.com.mt.

Queen Elizabeth was Malta’s head of state between 1954 and 1974, when the island became a republic and Sir Anthony Mamo became its first President.

Malta remains the only country besides the UK which the Queen called home and the late monarch had described her time here as one of the best moments of her life as it was the only time she could live normally.

The Queen’s last overseas visit was to Malta, for the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meeting.
