A relief flight sending over urgently-needed non-perishable items to Lebanon has been organised by members of the Maltese aviation community.

This comes after a major explosion ripped through the country’s capital, Beirut, on 4th August.

The tragedy claimed the lives of at least 171 and injured 6,000 others. Around 300,000 people have been left homeless.

Local company ‘Hill & Lamb’ has teamed up with pilot Charles Pace to secure an aircraft to deliver said goods.

The flight is set to leave Malta towards the beginning of September and will proceed to directly hand over all products to the Lebanese Red Cross.

“From experience with similar missions, we understand that the people on the ground are best to direct resources where they are most needed and we are sure that the Red Cross will make the most out of the items deliver,” Pace said.

“A number of local companies and individuals have already pledged donations and we are confident that we will manage to use up all the space on the aircraft and make the most of this generous offer.”

Earlier this month, a team of Malta-based chefs headed to Beirut to open their very own donation kitchen, therein providing clean and safe meals to those affected by the explosion.

Individuals interested in financially supporting the relief flight can do so by sending an SMS with the text ‘BEIRUT’ on 50619280 or by contacting ‘Hill & Lamb’ on [email protected]
