The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM) has finally removed its two members that sit upon the Board of Trustees of the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism.

The foundation falls under the remit of the Tumas Group, where Yorgen Fenech, the man suspected of being behind the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia is the majority owner.

The IGM, whose decision comes almost five days after the news of Fenech’s arrest emerged, said in a statement:

“The IGM feels that in light of the latest developments in our country, where a prominent member of the family that funds this foundation was arrested in connection with the investigations of the murder of journalist Caruana Galizia, we should no longer be associated with the foundation as long as Yorgen Fenech remains in the shadow of his arrest.”

The foundation it should be noted was set up by George Fenech, Yorgen’s late father.
