Maltese Developer Hits Gold In New York Based NYX Game Awards For His Horror Offering

Honolulu-based Maltese game developer Ryan Portelli finished in second place and won a gold award at the NYX Game Awards in New York USA.
This prestigious award is open to all game developers, advertisers, marketers, and enthusiasts who embody the creative ethos of the industry. Contestants have the opportunity to showcase their innovative projects, be recognised by the global gaming community, and make their voice heard in the medium’s future, according to the organisers.
Portelli says it’s a dream come true.
“Dreams coming true after lots of hard work and determination in silence. I have been nominated and WON GOLD AWARD in the #NYX GAME AWARDS based in NEW YORK, USA with one of my games that I created “.
Portelli had previously told Lovin Malta how he learned every single aspect of gaming development through YouTube tutorials.
The Backrooms: 1998 is a first-person found footage psychological horror survival game where it tells the story of a young teen who accidentally falls into the depths of The Backrooms in 1998.
The player can roam freely, mark, explore and try to unravel the story – however, they are not alone. Mind your footsteps, if you step on glass it will hear you. If you knock over objects, it might hear you. Everything comes at a consequence.
Are you thrilled that a Maltese developer is carving a niche for himself in the international gaming community?
