Maltese Fathers’ Group Slams System That ‘Steamrolls’ Over People In Nicholas Camilleri Vigil
A Maltese ‘fathers group’ has called out a system that is intent on ignoring individuals until its too late in a vigil for the late Nicholas Camilleri in Valletta.
Appealing for reform, Flimkien Missirijiet Inqumu slammed a “system that steamrolls over individuals like it did with Nicholas”, questioning how any society can call itself “humane” when people are left untended when facing personal challenges.
Camilleri, a Maltese father, was found dead following a mental health crisis. His family have opened up about the harrowing psychological problems that tragically led to their father committing suicide.
FMI expressed scorn at the way Nicholas Camilleri was treated as a criminal instead of receiving help to get better and how he was mercilessly isolated from his family, especially from his sons.
Members and some attendees from the public met in front of the law courts in Valletta and proceeded in a slow solemn walk towards Parliament while holding candles.
Another vigil dedicated to Nicholas Camilleri is set to take place in Valletta this evening.
