Maltese NGO Is Helping People Lose Weight In Free Programme To Fight Obesity In The Country
One Maltese NGO is leading the fray in Malta’s fight against obesity after launching a health program powered by the pros.
Healthcare providers at Evolve Endurance Club have been given the lease to help people shave off those pounds by creating a program that has already changed the lives of twenty participants.
The program is a nine-month course tackling Malta’s chief health issue, and from a multifactorial front too. Through it, members have been given free access to physical training, one-on-one support, diet plans, the whole shebang.
And that’s not all. Participants with the best results, those considered as ‘the biggest losers’, are given €500 each for their hard work.
Lovin Malta sat with Carina Suda, the President of the club, who shared a few words about the team’s goals.
“The club is trying to promote physical activity. Our aim is to create a positive shift in the mental, physical and social well-being of persons in the program,” she said.
“We wanted to get in touch with the community and help them. And for free.”
“It was also our aim to keep healthy habits moving forward in a ripple effect. An education that goes through the individual and to his family, friends, and even co-workers.
Through the program, healthcare specialists in the club are able to keep close contact with the participants to deliver tips, tricks, and hacks on how to stay lean, with the ultimate scope of having participants do it all by themselves when the time is right.
The program started last October but is only accepting participants up until July. So if you want to get in on it, then get in touch by clicking here.
A recent Eurostat survey has earmarked Malta as the most obese country in Europe.
According to the report, the latest figures show that Malta’s obesity rate stands at 28.7%. the largest in the bloc. More than double that of our neighbours Italy (11.7%).
The skyrocketing numbers have moved the government to launch a national strategy to combat childhood obesity.
Lovin Malta has also recently looked at Malta’s weight problem through a wide-ranging survey that has covered everything from eating habits to meal frequency, ahead of an upcoming documentary with Steve Miller, an international weight loss expert, on the issue.
