Metsola Calls Out ‘Failed Ministers Posing In Trenches’ And Amateurism Plaguing Malta During Energy Crisis

EU President Roberta Metsola expressed her dismay at the seven days of blackouts Malta had to suffer during this hellish heatwave while relaying her vision of how Malta can move forward into excellence.

“We do not need mediocrity and amateurism to be the hallmarks of those taking the decisions. We need fewer failed Ministers posing in trenches, using workers as props, but more long-term thinking,” she stressed

“We can end the constant division of our society into red and blue tribes that has been artificially force fed into us, and embrace a model where everyone moves forward.”

In her powerful call to action, Metsola calls for radical change in our thinking, proposing a country pushing towards excellence rather than mediocrity. A focus on critical thinking in education is an essential change we need to bring about from our present “parroting” system.

Here is the post in full:

“The seventh long day and night of massive blackouts across Malta and Gozo has enraged everyone. People are tired of the same excuses. We need to fix this country of ours. We can fix this country of ours.”

“We do not need mediocrity and amateurism to be the hallmarks of those taking the decisions. We need fewer failed Ministers posing in trenches, using workers as props, but more long-term thinking.”

“Malta can excel. We can create. We can re-imagine. Malta can lead.”

“We can build, but build better. With real, enforceable standards, not watered-down legislation outdated before it is even passed. With incentives to restore instead of tear down. With real planning and development policies designed for everyone. With investment in infrastructure that keeps up with private ambition. With green areas in every village. With real protection for workers. With transport policies that mean a 5km journey does not have to take 1 hour.”

“We have to invest in upgrading our unfit-for-purpose electricity grid. In a country with 300 days of sunshine, there should be zero excuses for seven day blackouts causing misery and hardship and exposing businesses and families to massive losses.”

“We need to pass legislation on the right to light, ensuring that everyone can harness solar energy and not only clean our air but lower bills by selling back to the grid.”

“We need a different economic outlook that prioritises entrepreneurship, digitalisation, sustainability and growth. That means our education system has to embrace critical thinking over parroting and repetition. It is how we incentivise real wage growth.”

“We can create new niches, new jobs and new hope. We can ensure young people are not priced out of the property market and ensure the elderly have more than the bare minimum to live with dignity.”

“We can turn Gozo into the island of all-year tourism, business and ecological paradise it can be. We don’t need to repeat the same mistakes. We can ensure prosperity for all without destroying the goose that lays the golden egg. We can give people more disposable income and create generational wealth by embracing our heritage and traditions, rather than bulldozing them.”

“Until 2027 we are in line for €2.2 billion in EU funds, and hundreds of millions more in recovery funding. From the European Parliament we will make sure they are spent properly. That’s how we transform our country. We can end the constant division of our society into red and blue tribes that has been artificially force fed into us, and embrace a model where everyone moves forward.”

“That’s how we hand it back better than we inherited it. That’s what politics can do.”

A very powerful message coming from the president of the European Parliament.

Do you think that Roberta Metsola’s vision of hope is still doable?
