Miriam Dalli And Clyde Caruana Are Next, Jason Azzopardi Warns
Criminal lawyer and former PN MP Jason Azzopardi has warned that Energy Minister Miriam Dalli and Finance Minister Clyde Caruana could face charges in connection with an ongoing magisterial inquiry into the ElectroGas power station.
The inquiry is being conducted by magistrate Charmaine Galea.
After reports surfaced that Dalli could be nominated as Malta’s next European Commissioner, after Chris Fearne withdrew his nomination, Azzopardi warned the government against going down this path.
“I am advising the government not to repeat the same mistake, and not let anyone else embarrass Malta overseas,” he said.
“If you nominate the Energy Minister for the post of EU Commissioner you will face problems in the coming months.”
He reiterated that the ElectroGas inquiry, which he opened in the names of Repubblika, PN MEP David Casa and former PN leader Simon Busuttil a few years ago, is set to conclude in the “coming months”.
“When it concludes, you will realise that just as Fearne was held criminally responsible for turning a blind eye and continuing to authorise payments to Vitals and Steward, so too will Miriam Dalli be held criminally responsible for turning a blind eye and continuing to pay ElectroGas.”
“The same reasoning will apply to Clyde Caruana.”
“Don’t tell you I didn’t warn you. Five years ago, you laughed at me and Repubblika, including when I warned against the nomination of Edward Scicluna to the post Central Bank Governor.”
“Now you know I was right. Don’t repeat the same mistake.”
