Update: Busuttil ‘In Favour’ Of Recreational Cannabis Discussion After Muscat Pledges National Consultation

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tonight said there should be a national discussion on the regularisation of cannabis and prostitution.

Asked for his reaction on Muscat’s comments, PN Leader Simon Busuttil said that he was in favour of an informed discussion based on scientific research about the regularisation of the use of recreational marijuana. He added that on such sensitive matters all parents were naturally concerned and therefore it was important “that we get it right”. This stand is also supported by Partit Demokratiku’s Marlene Farrugia, the party said.

Earlier, Dr Muscat said he was deeply conflicted on drug decriminalisation but understood the arguments on both sides of the argument and said it was time to look at the models being adopted by Portugal and Canada. He said the current system favoured criminals.

He also said it was time for a serious discussion about regularising prostitution. Dr Muscat was speaking during an interview on One TV.

Alternattiva Demokratika told Lovin Malta the party would be making its manifesto public by the end of next week.

So that makes one of Lovin Malta’s manifesto proposals already taken up by both major parties. Here’s hoping there’ll be more.
