A 17-year-old Maltese youth has reportedly been arrested in Poland after fatally running over an elderly cyclist.

According to TVN Warsawa, the accident took place on Powsińska Street in the town of Bielawa, near Warsaw, at around 5am. The cyclist, a 77-year-old, died on the spot.

“The driver was a 17-year-old Maltese citizen who did not have a driving license,” Piaseczno’s police commissioner Jarosław Sawicki was quoted as saying.

The youth was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but probably lost control of the Mercedes on a curve, turning to the left and accidentally colliding with the cyclist.
