An Albanian waiter is being hailed as a hero after his timely intervention saved a woman from choking on her own food at a restaurant in Għar Lapsi.
TVM reported that Endri Demaj was working at Carmen’s Bar and Restaurant when he spotted Patricia Neto, a 73-year-old Pietà resident choking on a piece of meat last week.
Recounting the experience afterwards, Patricia said she couldn’t breathe and was sure she was going to die.

Her friends cried for help and Endri was quick to respond, administering the Heimlich manouvre to remove the food from her throat. Once he succeeded, people who were present at the restaurant started clapping.
On Facebook, Patricia’s daughter Carole Khosla thanked Endri from the bottom of her heart.
“You saved my mother’s life that day and I am truly grateful,” she said. “The care and attention shown to her afterwards was amazing as well.”
Endri was showered with praise on social media, with people calling him a hero and others using the occasion to highlight the importance of first aid training.
Well done Endri!
