Local online pro-choice organisation, Lawyers for Choice, have kickstarted a new anonymous narrative campaign titled “Voicing the Violence: Your Story Matters”.

“This initiative seeks to amplify the voices of victims and the professionals who support them, highlighting the gaps in the current system and advocating for stronger, more robust protections.”, the organisation said in a statement.

Lawyers For Choice spearheaded the project with Dear Decision Makers to provide a safe space for individuals looking to speak up and help further raise awareness on the pressing matter in regards to domestic violence.

The initiative has also been backed by multiple local NGOs, namely, Doctors for Choice, Moviment Graffitti, Young Progressive Beings, Men Against Violence, Il-Kollettiv, Aditus and National Youth Council.

“Malta has one of the highest rates of femicide—ranking third in the EU according to the European Institute of Gender Equality,” L4C informs, “It is also consistently ranked as having one of the highest rates of victim-blaming when it comes to gender-based violence.”

The activist project “aims to shine a light on gender-based and domestic violence in Malta”, by allowing victims a platform in which they can anonymously voice their stories.

“Each story can contribute to a broader understanding of the challenges faced by many and help us work towards a safer, more supportive environment for all.”, L4C wrote.

You can gain access to the forms and get more information regarding the initiative on Lawyers for Choice’s or any of the other collaborators’ Facebook pages.

Forms are open until 1st November.
