As Malta mourns the loss of 48-year-old Joseph Zammit, footage of the firefighter’s participation in a risky rescue mission in Sliema has gone viral once again, remembering him as the hero many loved him for.
That fateful night in Sliema back in November 2021 saw Joseph assist a 14-year-old boy who had found a great deal of difficulty while swimming in Sliema, with CPD assisting after a young man, Sean Meli, had jumped into the sea to save the teenager.

The footage – which was filmed by TVM – is now making the rounds again, with many finding it as the perfect opportunity to honour the firefighter and his selfless acts throughout the years.

It was this, after all, which tragically led to his death, with Zammit dying while extinguishing a grass fire in Pembroke yesterday evening.

Rest In Peace Joseph Zammit, and thanks for being a true Maltese hero.
