Pelin Kaya, the woman who was tragically killed in Gżira this morning, has been remembered by her former employer as a passionate, generous, and helpful person.

Charis Mallia, general manager of the Msida furniture store Onepercent, told Lovin Malta that Pelin had been working with them for the past year.

“During her interview, she was confident yet humble and her positive attitude is what made us want her to be part of our team,” she recounted. “It took us very little time to realise how blessed we were to have her.”

Charis said Pelin was very passionate about design and went out of her way to realise her projects for clients. On a personal level, she was constantly looking out for her colleagues and “her gestures of kindness and generosity became something sweet that we all associated with her smiling face.”

“We always joked with Pelin, saying if only there were more like her that she could bring from home to join our team and she would always smile back and tell us she would try,” Charis recounted. “She left an indelible mark on us all and her memory will live with us always. Sincere condolences to the family from all of us from Onepercent. May she rest in peace.”

Kaya, who had just turned 30, was killed at around 1am this morning after she was run over by Jeremie Camilleri, a 33-year-old Lija resident who was reportedly high on cocaine at the time.

Camilleri crashed into a restaurant after running over Kaya and reportedly became aggressive after he exited the vehicle, even with people who tried to check up on the victim, as well as police officers who arrived on the scene.
