$25 Million In Six Months: ‘Fundraising Star’ Pete Buttigieg Ends Quarter ‘Punching Way Above His Weight’
Maltese-American 2020 presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg has outperformed all other democratic candidates for fundraising in the second quarter of 2019. Having raised over $24.9 million, the South Bend, Indiana, mayor more than tripled what he managed to raised last quarter ($7 million), beating former Vice President Joe Biden by almost $3 million.
Despite all the massive names that he has found himself competing against, the likes of Vox and Vanity Fair have dubbed him as a “fundraising star”, saying he’s “punching way above his weight”.
Perhaps rightly so, as he went from a town mayor to now outperforming names such as Sanders and Biden in this aspect of his campaign.
‘Mayor Pete’ has managed to garner contributions from over 30 Hollywood stars, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael J Fox and Tom Ford all donating between $2,800 and $5,600
On July 25th, talk show host Ellen Degeneres is to host a fundraising event for the young politician. This reception will allegedly highlight LGBT issues in Hollywood.
Buttigieg’s success has been even more noteworthy given that he has lately been running a very lean campaign, which is reported to be changing leading up to Labour Day, and was not as nationally known as a lot of his competition.
Mayor Pete entered July with $22.7 million, following Sanders with $27.3 million. In the past, he has received criticism about his young age, but he’s claimed that it is an asset to him, stating that his age makes him relate to the people he is to lead if he becomes president. He is now currently polling in fifth place.
What do you think of Buttigieg’s chances of becoming US President?
