President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Maltese MEP is currently on her third visit to the country since the outbreak of war, aiming to send a strong message on Europe Day, which celebrates peace and unity in Europe.

“We stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes. Since the unprovoked attack, Ukrainians have been fighting for our freedom,” Metsola said.

The EP President also expressed that she is “honoured to receive the Ukrainian Order of Merit by President Zelenskyy. It is a testament of our determination to keep supporting the brave people of Ukraine as they defend and protect our shared values. Our future is a shared one.”

During a joint press conference in Kyiv earlier today, air raid sirens interrupted proceedings, leading both Presidents and a delegation of Maltese journalists to seek shelter.
