Adrian Delia Faces New WhatsApp Leak As Private Election Chat Circulates On Social Media
A clip which appears to have emerged from a private chat with Adrian Delia is circulating on WhatsApp but the Opposition leader has said he doesn’t remember holding the conversation.
In the 15-second clip, Delia is heard saying: “Let’s do our utmost to achieve the best possible result in May. If we end up suffering the worst ever electoral defeat, I’ll either resign or I can be removed.”
Contacted by Lovin Malta, Delia said he doesn’t remember holding that particular conversation.
“It’s just one of these things doing the rounds on WhatsApp but there are more pressing issues right now,” he said. “Hundreds of people have asked me that same question and it’s humanly impossible to remember every conversation.”
Delia has never publicly tied his political future to last month’s European Parliament and local council elections, once stating that he will continue leading the party even if it loses those elections by 100,000 votes.
The PN ended up losing the MEP election by 42,000 votes and the local council election by 47,000 votes, both of which are historic losses.
The latest WhatsApp leak bears echoes of the situation that developed in the PN last January, when a trove of private video and audio footage involving the Opposition leader spread through social media.
However, Delia said he wasn’t concerned that other private chats could be leaked, arguing that “when I speak, I don’t speak in a manner that is concerning to me”.
