European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has been awarded with the 15th edition of the “Premio Biagio Agnes – Premio Internazionale di Giornalismo e Informazione”.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the Biagio Agnes Award during a memorable evening at beautiful Campidoglio in Rome” said Metsola in a post to social media.

“This award is testament of the EP’s leadership in supporting Ukraine, of our commitment to burst through the Brussels and Strasbourg bubble, and take Europe to people in every town, village and city.”

These awards carry the prestige of Italy’s guiding institutions, such as that of the President of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Camera dei Deputati.

Metsola’s prize was awarded in light of her work and attempts to promote and encourage investigative journalism and other forms of active engagement within the EU – which she believes is essential to sustaining a viable and bright democratic future.

Nations within the EU face many threats, both internal and external.

It is Metsola’s belief that through the tireless work of representatives and citizens, to promote unity and accountability, the bloc will prevail.

Though Metsola’s work often seen her attending highly important meetings with heads of state, such as Ukraine’s, she has also shown an aptitude for civic engagement intended to raise awareness around environmental issues such as plastic pollution.

Her work shows that there does not necessarily have to be a hard boundary between political work and public discourse.

Politicians can seek to lead the latter before capitalising on momentum through the former.

“We will keep going. We keep listening, keep explaining and keep delivering.”

Congratulations President Metsola
