‘If Fearne Falls, The Government Falls With Him,’ Franco Debono Says
Vocal Maltese lawyer Franco Debono has said that the moment criminal charges are presented against Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne, then the whole government will go down with him.
“The moment that criminal charges have been presented against Fearne, he must resign as a legal liability with him dragging down the Prime Minister who should bear political responsibility by association and with them the whole government,” Debono wrote on social media.
“Fearne goes down; they all go down. The government’s electoral majority is irrelevant. In 2019, Muscat had a strong majority but the government still fell.”
Last week, Fearne said he’s ready to resign if his name is mentioned in the Vitals inquiry and the parliamentary group wants him to.
Today, it was confirmed that Fearne will be facing lesser charges in comparison to former prime minister Joseph Muscat, ex-chief-of-staff Keith Schembri and ex-minister Konrad Mizzi for money laundering, corruption, and bribery.
Do you think Fearne should step down?
