Maltese Eurovision Singer’s Father Blasts PN Newspaper: ‘You Touched My Crown’
Lynn Faure’s father has taken the PN’s Sunday paper to task for publishing an article which derided his daughter as a failed singer after she enrolled in the Labour Party’s training programme for women.
“It was like a dagger to the heart,” Philip Chircop told ONE News. “There’s no one like family to me and if you touch them, it’s as though you’ve touched my crown. However, I didn’t expect the reporter to stoop so low as to confuse personal issues with public life.”
“I wasn’t expecting such a personal attack and I don’t accept it. It was hard to forgive and it will be hard to forget.”
Lynn Faure (née Chircop) had represented Malta at the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 25th with her song ‘To Dream Again’.
Chircop dismissed suggestions by Il-Mument that his daughter’s entry to the LEAD programme had anything to do with the way he had publicly resigned his PN membership while speaking to Opposition leader Adrian Delia.
“To be precise, Delia entered my house and brought the press with him. Those who have judged me simply don’t know the fact; I didn’t invite the press myself,” he said.
PN leader Adrian Delia personally called up Lynn Faure to apologise for the report, which he described as heavy–handed and inappropriate.
“I extend this apology to everyone else who was mentioned in the article and I’ve asked Il-Mument to retract the article immediately,” he said.
Lynn Faure accepted Delia’s apology, hailing the PN leader for “endorsing human principles”.
