Nationalist Party Leader Has Declared ‘Game Over’ On His Tax Problems

Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia has confirmed he has paid all his outstanding tax arrears and declared the longstanding controversy as “game over”.

The Labour Party’s Sunday newspaper Kullħadd reported today that Delia has managed to fully pay the €55,000 he owed the taxman and questioned where he found the money from. The paper made sure to note that Delia’s first payment came a few days after a PN fundraising marathon, but insisted it wasn’t suggesting the PN leader secretly used funds that were intended for the party.

On Net this morning, Delia said he managed to convince the Tax Department that he only owed €55,000, a figure much lower than what the Department initially demanded.

“Before I was elected leader, I became the first person in Maltese politics to willingly declare my assets in full detail, even though I had no legal obligation to do so,” he said. “I said back then that I had an old issue with the Tax Department which I was contesting, and this issue has now been resolved. It’s nothing out of this world. The Tax Department agreed with my argument and I paid the €55,000 I had owed. Game Over. Now the PL’s newspaper has the gall to point out that I paid my taxes after the fundraiser.”

Delia insisted he paid his taxes out of his own pockets and said he is willing to provide all documentation necessary to prove his point to any sceptics.

“I now urge Kullħadd to send the same question to every other MP. I am ready to provide full public disclosure on my finances; let’s see if other MPs are ready to do the same.”
