Solidarity ‘Meeting’ For Joseph Muscat To Be Held In Front Of Court On Day Of Criminal Charges
Joseph Muscat campaigner and PL activist Emanuel Cuschieri announced a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
Cuschieri took to social media to “invite followers” to a meeting to show solidarity with Joseph Muscat – “Laqgħa ta’ solidarjetà”.
The “meeting” will take place in front of the Maltese Courts in Valletta on Tuesday, 28th May at 10am – the day Muscat is set to be criminally charged.
“On this day, we will show solidarity with the man who took care of us factually, in a calm and civil manner,” Cuschieri wrote.
The official poster for the event, posted yesterday at 7.30pm, already has over 330 shares on Facebook.
Following a Magisterial Inquiry Vitals hospital concession, Muscat is set to be formally charged with money laundering, bribery, trading in influence, and a long list of other offences, including establishing a criminal association.
The charges were filed earlier this month, prompting Muscat to respond that they would be amusing if they weren’t so serious. “I am beyond convinced that I will pass through this Calvary and I am looking forward to that day, because the instigators and those who associated themselves with it will lead to the collapse of the PN once and for all,” Muscat said on Cuschieri’s ONE Radio show Linja Ċara.
Muscat is being arraigned by summons, not under arrest.
Earlier in the month, Cuschieri addressed his followers, saying, “As soon as we have an indication of the date and time that Dr Muscat and others could be charged in this political vendetta, we will be there outside court, in a show of solidarity.”
“The time of Facebook comments is over; now is the moment of truth. If he is charged, we will be physically present outside court, in a civil and calm but determined manner, to show solidarity with Dr Muscat and the others.”
Cuschieri said he wants to live in a “normal country”, where “justice is effective and not twisted into political persecution against successful people”.
