The second night of scanning for the local council elections saw a third party finally get elected, as Labour continued to dominate across both Malta and Gozo.

Labour is currently leading with 60% vote share to the PN’s 37% after yesterday’s results. The last count, which involves 23 localities, is taking place tonight.

1. A third party finally got seats on a local council

A third party finally got elected onto a local council, after ‘G?arb L-Ewwel’ (G?arb First) put more established parties like Alternattiva Demokratika and Partit Demokratiku to shame.

Former PN Mayor David Agius Apap and Miriam Borg both won a place on the local council in the Gozitan locality of G?arb, with Agius Apap receiving the most votes.

PD Deputy Leader Timothy Alden, who ran as an independent candidate after a party mishap, was unable to get a place on the 13-seat Sliema local council.

2. A night of Labour celebrations

Last night’s second round of counting saw Labour celebration after Labour celebration with the sound of banging perspex a common theme of the night.

The PN walked away with just four of the 21 localities up for grabs (Sliema, Rabat (Gozo), ?al-Lija, and M?arr) to Labour’s mammoth 16, who also managed to increase their majority in a number of towns and villages across the island.

The remaining locality in G?arb is currently in deadlocked between Labour and ‘G?arb L-Ewwel’.

3. PN made further losses

After losing the capital city Valletta and St Paul’s Bay in the first round of counting for the local council elections, the PN also saw their majority in San ?wann and G?arb wrestled away from them.

Birkirkara, a locality where the PN hoped to mount a successful challenge, saw Labour increase their majority.

The PL has also claimed majorities in the local councils of Kalkara, Paola, Gudja, Rabat (Malta), ?a?-?abbar, ?al G?axaq, Pieta’, Fgura, Bormla, Xag?ra, Marsaxlokk, and Sannat.

While not necessarily as hyped as the MEP elections, the loss of key localities will certainly put pressure on embattled PN Leader Adrian Delia.

4. What’s happening tonight?

The last round of counting takes place tonight, as Labour looks to deliver yet another devastating blow to its rivals in the space of a week.

Si??iewi (the home district of PN Leader Adrian Delia) and Naxxar could be interesting battlegrounds Labour would look to claim.

Tonight will see the local council elections of the following localities:

Swieqi, Attard, Qormi, Naxxar, Mosta, Floriana, Luqa, Senglea, ?amrun, G?arg?ur, G?ira, Kirkop, Si??iewi, Santa Lu?ija, Mtarfa, Xg?ajra, Safi, Vittoriosa, San Lawrenz, Munxar, Qala, Kercem and ?ebbu?
