You Only Got Elected Because Of Your Father, PL MP Edward Zammit Lewis Tells Beppe Fenech Adami

Labour MP Edward Zammit Lewis came out swinging against PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami, describing him as “incompetent” and claiming he only got elected because he is the son of former Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami.

“He contests on my district and I’ve always said that were it not for his father, he would have to watch Parliament from TV because he is incompetent,” Zammit Lewis said on ONE TV’s Pjazza tonight. “I am telling him this to his face.”

The former Justice Minister lashed out at Fenech Adami after the PN MP criticised the government for only fully implementing two out of 25 recommendations to combat corruption that GRECO had issued Malta in 2019.

“Two out of 25… in an exam, you would have scored eight out of 100,” Fenech Adami said.

In response to Zammit Lewis’ latest comments, Fenech Adami said he is proud that he is Eddie Fenech Adami’s son and told him to “keep on enjoying Joseph Muscat, your Prime Corrupt friend.”

Zammit Lewis also mocked new PN MP Mark Anthony Sammut, who also criticised the government over the GRECO report, as a “johnny-come-lately who doesn’t impress me”.

“He joined the PN, then left and then re-joined, he’s like a football player who is sometimes left on the bench and he doesn’t impress me at all,” Zammit Lewis said. “I was in a debate with him and I could have left after a quarter of an hour. These are the PN’s new people. The PN never changes and it never learns.”

Sammut responded by telling Zammit Lewis to “keep on trying to impress” Yorgen Fenech, a reference to leaked WhatsApp chats between the MP and the murder suspect in which Zammit Lewis tells Fenech that he “misses him so much”
“He must still miss him,” Sammut said.

Zammit Lewis was frozen out of Prime Minister Robert Abela’s Cabinet entirely despite performing admirably at the 2022 general election, with Jonathan Attard succeeding him as Justice Minister.

Despite this slight, the MP had words of gushing praise for Abela for helping push through judicial reforms, including changes in the way the President of the Republic and the judiciary are appointed.

“Robert Abela had the guts to strip himself of his own constitutional powers and give them to others,” Zammit Lewis said.
