From Grief To Purpose: Annual Run In Memory Of Rebecca Raises Funds For Charity

Over 35 runners, crew and supporters gathered to run 20 kilometres in memory of Rebecca Zammit Lupi, a Maltese student who passed away after her battle with an aggressive cancer in 2021.
A close friend of Rebecca’s, Tommy Wallbank, led the run as he turned his grief into action ever since she lost her life to Ewing’s Sarcoma. This year’s 20-kilometre run was more than just a personal challenge as it marked what would have been Rebecca’s 20th birthday.
“Since she passed, her memory has been a guiding light behind everything I do. I continue to run to help keep her spirit alive,” Tommy shared.
The journey began four years ago when Tommy first set out to run 1,000 kilometers and fundraise in Rebecca’s honour. What started as a pledge to run 1 kilometre for every €5 donated, quickly grew into something much bigger with Tommy completing all 1,000 km and raising over €11,000 for Puttinu Cares.
This event sparked a yearly tradition: one kilometre run for every year of Rebecca’s life. This year’s run supported two causes close to Tommy’s heart. So far, €700 have been raised to support the Karl Vella Foundation and Crisis Resolution Malta.
“Each step, each kilometer, and each donation is part of something greater; a reminder that love and memory live on in action,” wrote Tommy.
Tommy invites all who would like to contribute to these important causes via donations on Revolut number 77300305
