Julian Scerri, Malta’s rising squash star, is making waves on the European stage with an impressive winning streak.

Over the weekend, Julian claimed his second European title in just two weeks by winning the Boys’ Under-19 category at the Romanian Junior Open 2024.

His performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he didn’t drop a single game across all five matches, confirming his reputation as one of Malta’s most promising young athletes.

This recent victory follows his win at the Hungarian Junior Open just two weeks prior, where he triumphed in the Boys’ Under-17 category.

These back-to-back titles mark Julian’s third European title overall and are set to boost his European ranking, propelling him from 11th to an anticipated 7th place in the Under-17 European Boys’ category.

Reflecting on his win in Bucharest, Julian shared that competing in the Under-19 category was a deliberate decision to push his limits. “The Romanian Junior Open was a great tournament where I played an age group up, striving for the best matches possible. I’m incredibly proud to have played at my highest level,” he said.

His standout performance showcased the skills he’s refined over the last year, including his physical endurance, short-game precision, and mental resilience.

With the Polish Junior Open just two weeks away, Julian is focused on maintaining his unbeaten record this season. “Everything’s going to plan, and I’m feeling sharp going into my next tournament,” he shared.

Julian credits his recent success to the unwavering support of his coach Ray Dlamini, along with the Malta Squash Association, the Maltese Olympic Committee, SportMalta, Wycliffe College, and his family.

Reflecting on his journey, Julian expressed gratitude for his family’s commitment: “I couldn’t have done it without my parents and family following me all over the globe, helping me pursue my dreams.”

With an impressive season already underway, Julian Scerri is one to watch as he continues to bring pride to Malta on the international squash stage.

Well done Julian!
