Blackouts are always a pain, but last night’s major power cut was particularly ill-timed for Marsa FC.

The Maltese First Division side were leading 2-0 against St Andrews FC when they were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute. However, right as their player shot the ball, the lights at the Centenary Stadium went out and the referee ended up suspending the game.

St Andrews’ keeper had actually dived the right way, so it’s still a mystery whether the ball went in or not.

Here’s the exact moment, caught on camera.

Malta was plunged into darkness last night, with Enemalta blaming the power cut on a fault in the interconnector between Malta and Sicily.

New Energy Minister Miriam Dalli praised Enemalta’s technicians for managing to return electricity to some households within eight minutes and the majority of households within 40 minutes.
