Malta’s O-Levels assessment is about to change in a major way.

From the next set of exams, only 70% of the final grade will be coming from the examinations themselves – 30% of marks will come from assessments held throughout Form 3, 4 and 5.

The Education Ministry’s Director General Jude Zammit revealed the new approach while appearing on TVM’s programme Insights

The 30% will be coming from “continuous assessments” throughout the final three years of secondary school. The remaining 70% will be garnered from the end of year O Level exams as they are now.

University of Malta Faculty of Education Vice Dean Michelle Attard Tonna praised the initiative, saying it would provide a broader range of opportunities for students.

During the show, Zammit also confirmed the pre-election pledge that all Form 1 students would be getting a free laptop from the next scholastic year.
