One Of The World’s Largest Sports Betting Agencies Is Set To Relocate To Malta
Bet365, one of the world’s most popular sports betting companies, is set to move to Malta from Gibraltar as a tactical move post-Brexit.
The Sunday Times of Malta reported that Bet365 has already signed a promise of sale deal to purchase property in Tigné for some €70 million that would serve as its new global headquarters. It is expected to be a major boon to the Maltese economy, attracting some 1,000 employees and allaying fears that the island’s gaming industry has been unsettled by the infiltration of criminal elements.
“It is not every day that 1,000 well-paid employees are relocated to Malta,” gambling sources told The Times. “Apart from the fact that we are talking about the largest sports betting company in the world, with some 23 million customers, 1,000 new individuals and their families looking for a place to stay for quite some time on a small island will mean significant business.”
Bet365 was founded in 2000 by Denise Coates, daughter of Stoke City FC chairman Peter Coates, and is the largest private employer in Stoke-on-Trent.
