Overcoming Sepsis Tragedy: Maltese Family Aims For €200,000 For New Beginnings
It only took a few hours for Shawn Mifsud’s entire life to be turned upside down.
But the immense challenges were only beginning for the 37-year-old army soldier, husband, and father of two daughters. After catching a virus that turned into severe sepsis, Shawn had to have both arms and both legs amputated due to the damage caused by the shock.
In a wheelchair following operations removing everything below the elbow and knees, Shawn isn’t giving up – and alongside Puttinu Cares, Shawn and his family are trying to raise €200,000 to help him get bionic arms and a chance at independence once more.
But it isn’t easy, and the Mifsuds need your help.
Additionally, Shawn’s kidneys were impacted and led to kidney failure, with Shawn now requiring dialysis three times a week until a suitable kidney donor is found for a transplant.
Listen to Shawn himself speak about his hopes for a better life.
