‘Patriots’ To Protest Violence By Foreigners Against Maltese People In Wake Of Zack Meli Killing

This morning’s killing of Zack Meli has prompted the nativist Patriots’ Movement party to announce a protest in Valletta this weekend against “violence by foreigners against Maltese people”.
“Wake up, people, because one day it will be you or one of your relatives,” the party’s president Alex Pisani warned. “Our youths are getting attacked by foreigners. Join us this weekend in solidarity with [Meli’s] family.”

After analysing CCTV footage, police have arrested 19-year-old Bulgarian national Denis Davkov on suspicion of landing the fatal punch on Meli and will arraign him in court tomorrow. Dankov lives in Sliema and photos on his now-deleted Facebook profile indicate he has been living in Malta since at least 2014.
TVM reported that Meli was walking down the Paceville steps at around 6:30am when he bumped into a Maltese girl – who One News said was Dankov’s girlfriend. Dankov punched Meli in the face, knocking him to the ground and seriously injuring him. Meli was rushed to Mater Dei but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.
