Outgoing Labour MEP Josianne Cutajar has shared an instance of a random act of kindness that a foreign worker recently displayed on the Gozo Ferry.

I arrived at the ferry in a usual rush and went to buy a bottle of water to clear my throat,” Cutajar wrote.

“However, I realised I had left my purse in another handbag in my Maltese apartment and told the worker that I wasn’t going to take the water because I had left my money behind. With a sincere smile, he voluntarily offered to pay for the water himself,” she said.

“It was a small gesture but I really appreciated it. I smiled back at him and told him that I wasn’t going to abuse of his kindness and could last a bit longer without water.”

“The worker told me I am a kind person, but in truth they are the kind ones. Although I didn’t take the water, he still found me on the boat and insisted I take it.”

Cutajar said she decided to share this experience to counter the popular narrative and complaints against foreign workers.

“I would like to hear more about small acts of kindness by people, irrespective of their skin colour, religion and nationality, who try to help others in their own way,” she said.
