Watch: ‘We Promised You Open Spaces’: Robert Abela Inaugurates €16 Million Concert Zone In Ta’ Qali
A new concert area within Ta’ Qali National Park, which cost €16 million, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Robert Abela yesterday evening.
“We promised open spaces and we are giving you open spaces,” Abela said as he began his address. The area, previously occupied by a concrete factory and an illegal dump site, underwent redevelopment to create the concert zone.
Plans for the project were revealed in 2019, followed by a public call for proposals a year later. The newly established venue is scheduled to host two Take That concerts later this year.
“We could have come here and inaugurated a new factory. However, while investment in the economic sector is important, it is equally important to invest in projects such as this one to give families a better quality of life,” Abela said.
A press release by the Government on the inauguration of the project called this venture “just a part of the chain of the biggest green regeneration taking place in Ta’ Qali”.
Transport Minister Chris Bonett explained that this venue symbolises “the relentless efforts of the Government towards proactive change, one which brings about a better quality of life and work”.
“This project is a testament to our dedication towards sustainable development, besides being an assurance that our collective future is built upon the principles of innovation, responsibility, and inclusion. This project is a testament to the Government’s dedication to progress and the betterment of society,” Bonett continued.
Also present were Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia and CEO of Ta’ Qali National Park, Jason Micallef.
