PN MP Stephen Spiteri Warns Against Politics Of ‘Extreme Confrontation’

Nationalist MP Stephen Spiteri has sounded a warning against the politics of “extreme confrontation”.
“I would like to pass on a message that several people with different political beliefs and from different levels of society have told me,” Spiteri said.
“These people want a style of politics that doesn’t result in extreme confrontation but rather in dialogue that leads to solutions.”
“Criticism is essential and it is the Opposition’s duty to criticise, just as it is important to carry out important work and draft serious and well-researched proposals that eventually result in alternative policies that can improve people’s lives.”
“When politicians are close to the people, it helps us feel everyone’s pulse and design policies together for the good of society.”
Spiteri’s comment follows PN MP Carm Mifsud Bonnici’s recent warning against “theatrics” in Parliament and Alex Borg’s more specific criticism against his party’s “attacks” on Speaker Anglu Farrugia.
Parliament will today discuss a PL motion that asks MPs to condemn the Opposition’s behaviour towards Farrugia in recent weeks.
