PN’s Reply On Gay Marriage: What Are You Waiting For?
The Nationalist Party has reacted to the announcement by Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli that she’s drafting a law to upgrade civil unions to gay marriage.
In a statement issued this afternoon, PN said the last time the government mentioned gay marriage it was in the midst of the Panama Papers scandal one year ago.
“Back then PN leader Simon Busuttil said that since civil unions already give the rights and obligations of civil marriage, there should be no difficulty in changing the name and calling it marriage. A year has passed since this has been agreed upon, so the question arises: why did you wait until today to declare you’re moving ahead with this law?”
The PN said the government should stop using the LGBT community every time it had its back to the wall on the Panama scandal.
