Police Believe Third Parties Were Not Involved In AG Prosecutor’s Death

Police do not currently believe that third parties were involved in the death of Karl Muscat, a prosecutor from the office of the Attorney General.

However, investigators are not as yet ruling anything out and will wait on an autopsy before officially determining the cause of death.

Muscat, 43, was found dead in his home earlier today by relatives, who immediately called the police.

Police are treating the case as an equivocal death investigation – which are inquiries that are still open to interpretation as police look to determine whether it was an accidental death, homicide or suicide.

Muscat was working on the case involving Ryan Schembri, the owner of the now defunct More Supermarkets. He was also leading the prosecution against car dealer and alleged kidnapper Christian Borg.

He was also known in political circles, following his father former PN MP Pierre Muscat’s footsteps, and served as PN local councillor in Rabat. He stepped down in October 2020 to take up his post in the AG’S office.

Notably, he led a petition supporting then-PN leader Adrian Delia during a period of crisis within the party.

The Times of Malta has reported that Muscat was suspended from his work last week.

An inquiry, which is being led by Gabriella Vella, has been opened to determine whether there was any foul play.

Our sincere condolences to Muscat’s family and friends
