Prison Official Put On Forced Leave Over Alleged Yorgen Fenech Meeting
Prison head of strategy Svetlana Muscat has been put on forced leave in light of police investigations into allegations that she allowed Yorgen Fenech to use her office for a personal meeting.
The Home Affairs Ministry confirmed with MaltaToday that the police are investigating the allegation and that Muscat has been put on forced leave.
The alleged meeting was first flagged by lawyer Jason Azzopardi, who described it as “obscene abuse”.
“People who want to visit a suspect in prison must obtain permission from the inspector and the courts must approve it. Svetlana Muscat knows this but she broke the law for Yorgen Fenech. What did they promise you?” he said.
Fenech has been in prison since he was arrested in 2019 over the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. He has yet to face trial and multiple bail requests have been turned down.
