Robert Abela is set to dine at an Mġarr restaurant that faced an online harassment campaign “in the coming days, schedule permitting”.

Abela is the latest politician set to dine at Il-Barri Restaurant after a prominent Labour supporter and construction businessman, Matthew Bongailas, shared an image of its owner appearing at a PN rally in Valletta.

Speaking to Lovin Malta yesterday, an OPM spokesperson recounted how Abela had phoned Il-Barri Restaurant in the wake of the online attack, showing his support for the restaurant, for the owner’s right to attend any rally he wants and congratulated him on the restaurant’s continued success.

Abela is now hoping to lunch there in the coming days.

His visit comes after a number of Nationalist politicians popped into the beloved Mġarr diner today for a rabbit lunch.

And it’s not just them – Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg also told Lovin Malta that he cannot wait to have a proper rabbit meal at Il-Barri.

Indeed, the initial calls against the restaurant seemed to have entirely backfired, with politicians and supporters from both sides pledging to dine there in the face an online harassment campaign.

Will you be lunching at Il-Barri anytime soon?
