Ryanair Is No Longer Offering Free 10kg Carry-Ons
Ryanair just followed through with threats to change policies on carry-on baggage, after claiming customers were “abusing” of the current situation. The budget airline, known for cheap fares, unbendable rules, and sneaky hidden charges, realised once more they could capitalise on basic travel ‘luxuries’, and ended the free two-bag carry-on loophole once and for all.
As of November 1, non-priority passengers will need to check their 10kg hand baggage into the hold at their respective boarding gate, free of charge. Laptops and handbags (the smaller hand luggage: 35cm x 20cm x 20cm) will still be allowed on board.
If passengers wish to keep both carry-on items with them throughout the flight – they’ll now need to purchase Priority Boarding for €5 per person, for every flight.
Passengers with Family Plus, Flexi Plus, and Plus fares will be permitted their accustomed two carry-on bags.
The airline’s main objective is to encourage clientele to check-in more luggage, more often. In order to do so without causing absolute mayhem, they’ve increased their check-in bag weight allowance from 15kg, to 20 kg, and have dropped their rates from €35 to €25 per bag.
And there’s still some more fine print. Ryanair notes that busy travel times like Christmas, Easter, and longer Peak-Summer flights will have a €10 supplement placed on the bags.
Good thing they haven’t caught on to the “wear-every-tshirt-you-own-during-your-flight” loophole…yet…
