‘Show Up And Object’: Final PA Meeting Over 51-Apartment Block In Nadur This Friday

Objectors are urging the public to attend the final Planning Authority meeting for the controversial 51-apartment block in Triq il-Qortin in Nadur, happening this Friday.

In the ongoing two-year saga, plans for the sizeable block have been reduced from the initial 71 apartments to 51, however, residents still believe that this development shouldn’t be approved.

“People need to come together – it’s important to show up and object. We have power in numbers and when we have each other’s backs as a community,” one of the objectors told Lovin Malta.

“If we scream the loudest and longest we can make a change but we have to show up as a community,” they appealed.

The proposed development is objectionable for a vast number of reasons, with the plans directly running counter to the Gozo and Comino local plans.

The development is also set to take up huge parts of arable land, land which is still worked by local farmers. If permitted, the development will also set a precedent for the further development of rural land.

It would also restrict access to the Natura 2000 site of Il-Qortin, as well as increase parking problems on an already narrow road.

From an aesthetic point of view, the plans also jar considerably with the rest of the residential buildings currently in the area and would prove to be a massive eyesore to the skyline of Nadur.

For those of you who did not originally object but would like to join Friday’s PA meeting, send an email to [email protected] to register your interest and be placed on the waiting list to get the PA meeting link on the day.

The final decision was suspended back in January over ownership issues, as questions on who actually owns the land have resurfaced many times.

Over 1,300 people had submitted their representations against the controversial permit, and while it had initially led to the suspension of the application, it returned again just a few months later.
