‘Stop Playing Sad Partisan Games’, Metsola Tells Abela Over Maltese Interpreter Shortage
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has clapped back at Robert Abela after the Prime Minister accused her of shirking responsibility over the shortage of Maltese interpreters in Brussels.
“The idea of Robert Abela accusing anyone else of being incapable of taking a decision is laughable,” a spokesperson for Metsola told Lovin Malta.
“The President of the European Parliament again appeals to the Prime Minister to stop playing sad partisan games in an effort to shift attention away from the infighting of his political party and find a solution… and perhaps reply to a letter that has been pending for six weeks.”
Last month, Metsola sent Abela a letter to warn him that the European Parliament is finding it increasingly hard to find Maltese interpreters and translators.
She said the European Parliament is “ready to do everything” to address this shortage of interpreters and called for further cooperation with the Maltese government to help train more people.
Abela didn’t respond to the letter but told Lovin Malta that the responsibility for an interpreter shortage falls squarely on Metsola’s shoulders for not offering them attracting enough work conditions.
