‘Strip Muscat Of His State Honours’ – Arnold Cassola Demands PN Removes Former PM’s Award
Independent Candidate Arnold Cassola has called for the PN Parliamentary Group to make a motion to withdraw Joseph Muscat’s Ġieħ ir-Repubblika award.
“Two years ago I wrote to President George Vella to revoke Joseph Muscat’s Ġieħ ir-Repubblika.”
“The Office of the President informed me that the Honours Committee has no power to withdraw honours, and it is only parliament, through a specific motion for a resolution, that can do so.”
Since then, Cassola has resumed a campaign against all things Muscat – who has not, in Cassola’s view, faced justice.
This statement was issued after the publication of a joined Times of Malta, OCCRP and The Shift News investigation which presented evidence of Muscat’s financial dealings tying him to the “hospitals money trail”.
Muscat has rebuffed that investigation as a “concerted attack from the usual suspects”.
In a statement, Cassola listed a series of what he called “proven facts” which should force the PN Parliamentary Group to withdraw the former PM’s Ġieħ ir-Repubblika honour.
“It is a proven fact that Joseph Muscat planned to make millions out of Malta’s health system.”
“It is a proven fact that Joseph Muscat kept in contact and socialised with alleged assassin Yorgen Fenech, despite knowing he was being investigated as one of the persons who had commissioned the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.”
“It is a proven fact that Muscat maintained this relationship despite having been informed by Keith Schembri that Yorgen Fenech was the owner of 17 Black.”
“It is a proven fact that Muscat asked Keith Schembri to contact Yorgen Fenech on the eve of his attempted escape from Malta.”
“It is a proven fact that Muscat decided unilaterally and on his own to give a pardon to middleman Melvin Theuma.”
These “proven facts” are not all proven beyond any doubt – and certainly not proven to the same degree.
There does appear to be a significant amount of billowing smoke – which is often an indication of fire.
The Ġieħ ir-Repubblika is a society of honour offering membership to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional merit in the service of Malta.
The award carries a motto: “Għall-Ġid tal-Maltin” or “for the benefit of the Maltese”.
Cassola continued:
“While Muscat planned to make these millions, Robert Abela is housing the Maltese sick in the Mater Dei canteen and corridors. The sick have to wash in makeshift moveable filthy plastic showers, and nurses are being forced to work 56 hours for a €6000 rise”.
“In view of the above behaviour, absolutely not fitting for any normal person, let alone a Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat should be stripped of his state honours,” concluded Cassola.
Do you think that PN MPs should present a motion to strip Muscat of his Ġieħ ir-Repubblika?
