The annual tax refund scheme, through which the government posts cheques to thousands of workers, will return next year.

As was the case in the past, the 2024 Budget will see some 250,000 workers receive cheques worth between €60 and €140.

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana insisted this would be a boost to workers and not merely the result of the government repaying them money it had wrongly taxed them.
